About us

iBiTec-S employs a total staff of about 500 employees at all levels working on fundamental and applied research projects in a wide range of disciplines of the Life Sciences :
• fundamental mechanisms of cell energetics and membrane functions,
• regulation of gene expression and cell cycle control,
• cellular response to the effects of ionizing radiation, nuclear toxic agents and oxidative stress,
• pharmacokinetics of drugs and biological molecules,
• protein engineering via chemical and genetic engineering tools.

To bring these projects to fruition, iBiTec-S has expertise and develops methods and tools, in particular :
• chemical tools specific to the life sciences such as molecular labeling,
• biophysical methods for the in-depth study of complex molecules,
• innovative techniques for research in biochemistry, genetics and cellular imaging,
• large-scale biological methods (genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics),
• assay methods (analytical immunology, mass spectrometry).

The iBiTec-S research groups welcome doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers. The approximately fifty groups are divided into five departments, each with its own specific research themes and methods.

iBiTec-S supports and fosters numerous partnerships. We collaborate with many public research institutions: one of our departments is a mixed CNRS unit (SB2SM/UMR 8221); SPI hosts an INRA group, a group from the University Paris 7, and iBiTec-S and ICMMO (University of Paris Sud) have created a collaborative research structure. iBiTec-S has numerous collaborations with industrial partners and also hosts the R&D group of SPI-Bio as well as a mixed CEA-Biomérieux unit.
