A new source of human skin stem cells

A team at the CEA’s Department of Functional Genomics jointly with L’Oréal’s "Peau Reconstruite" Centre have for the first time successfully isolated from cultured human skin cells a side population displaying all the characteristics of stem cells. This team is now studying the radiosensitivity of these cells, which may be an important radiation target in the skin.
