Toward chemical inhibitors of angiogenesis

Screening a chemical library led to the identification of a family of molecules, whith one has been tested by researchers at the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Infection for its anti-angiogenic and anti-tumor capabilities on mice in vivo tumorigenesis models.

Sulphur in Biology

Only four proteins are described as being able to achieve radical direct insertion of a sulfur atom in a CH bond of biomolecules. The poorly understood mechanism behind such an insertion reflect at most one turnover in vitro. These systems are called "sacrificial" because the sulfur of the FeS centers of these proteins is the one which is found in the substrate. Thanks to this new publication, researchers from the Chemistry and biology of metals laboratory propose a mechanism allowind these enzyme systems to achieve more in vitro turnover.

Proteomic analysis of lysosomes

Lysosomes are intracellular organelles having a function of cell bin, and where the non-functional molecules are removed by digestion. To identify new proteins that may be involved in certain diseases related to these organelles, researchers from Large Scale Biology Laboratory performed a proteomic analysis of lysosomes.

Biomimetic system

To understand the dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton, researchers at the Plant Cell & Physiology Laboratory and Institut Curie have developed an in vitro biomimetic system to reconstitute it. By coupling a model reflecting the complexity of this dynamic, it becomes possible to identify and formulate the principles governing the cytoskeletal dynamics and organization. This research allows for example to highlight the consequences of intracellular mechanical malfunctions for diseases such as cancer.

Bacterial civil war

Researchers from the Cancer Biology and Infection Laboratory identified at the surface of Pseudomonas aeruginosa a new secretion system (SST6) allowing injection of toxins or other effectors. In this study, they show that accessories genes coding for SST6, are most likely involved in a signaling trans-membrane pathway promoting the development of the injection device under certain environmental conditions.

in vivo biofilms

The formation of bacterial biofilms may be the cause of nosocomial infections or antibiotic resistance. While most research on the mechanisms of formation of these biofilms is made in vitro, a collaboration of a team at the Large Scale Biology Laboratory and Dr. de Bentzmann, Université Aix-Marseille, has yielded in vivo results in the formation of biofilms of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Drosophila. The foundation for further research can be launched.
