An anomaly in the brain's response to the human voice in autism

A study conducted by the joint INSERM-CEA team ?Brain Imaging in Psychiatry' at the Frederic Joliot Hospital Service (*) has revealed an inability in autists to activate the brain areas specific to the recognition of the human voice. These findings support the hypothesis whereby the difficulties experienced by autists are linked to an impaired perception of social stimuli. This study is described in detail in the August issue of the journal Nature Neuroscience .
