The core mission of the I²BM Institute is to deploy research programmes designed to:
• understand how the human brain works,
• develop diagnostic tools and innovative therapeutic approaches for treating neurodegenerative (Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, Alzheimer’s), cardiovascular and viral diseases, and cancers,
• to expand research into blood immunology,
• strengthen research partnerships with university centres in France and abroad,
• relay with business-based healthcare technology professionals, notably by providing research support for industry producers of imaging equipment and medicines.

The I²BM’s core activity is based on the Life science division’s Imaging research. The institute boasts several cutting edge technology platforms equipped with facilities that mesh together to achieve scientific targets, and that are made available to the scientific community as well as to industry researchers.

The core mission of I²BM is to harmonize the objectives and conditions of research carried out at the cross-discipline Imaging platforms in the Ile-de-France area and in Caen (Normandy). The institute has several core departments, each department running a research platform.
