Presentation
The Laboratory of Oxidative Stress and Cancer studies the molecular bases of cancer and aging. These two pathological processes result from the degeneration of cellular functions due to the accumulation of damaged cellular constituents and aberrant expression of the genome. Oxidative stress is one of the most important endogenous sources of cellular stress. Michel Toledano’s group studies the biological effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) at the level of signaling, redox homeostasis, and toxicity. DNA is the predominant biological target of the endogenous and exogenous agents that are implicated in cancer and aging. Carl Mann’s group studies the mechanisms that maintain genomic stability at the level of chromatin and the cellular response to genotoxic stress.
