Structural biology platform

A structural biology facility associating a technical facility with methodological development in crystallography, NMR, mass spectrometry, electronic microscopy, optical methods and molecular simulation.

The Structural Biology platform of the Jean-Pierre Ebel Institut of Structural Biology ( iBS: CEA, CNRS and Grenoble University Joint Research Unit) gathers technical equipments and cutting-edge know-how to study protein structure form the corresponding genes.

The Platform possesses state-of-the-art equipments and expertise to develop complex and original projects (e.g. FIP beamline for protein crystallography, neutronic spectrophotometer for molecular dynamic analysis, high field NMR) as well as more traditional devices (e.g. fluorimeter, PCR machine, fluorescence and electronic microscopy set up, electrophysiology set up, Biacore…) ensuring the continuity of the projects developed in all their molecular biology and biochemistry aspects:

  • Gene cloning, recombinant protein expression in microorganisms, targeted mutagenesis generated by automates,
  • Complex protein purification (e.g. membrane proteins),
  • Protein characterization (N-Ter sequencing, aminoacids analysis, mass spectrometry, Biacore…)
  • Crystallography of proteins and analysis (automated for high throughput screening, X-rays crystallography, circular dichroism…),
  • 3D structure and protein dynamics (crystallization, NMR, IR and RAMAN spectrometry, electrophysiology…)

Its location at the heart of the iBS research labs, and its attachment to the Structural Biology Partnership (PBS) along with ESRF, ILL, EMBL and UVHCI, make the iBS platform for Structural Biology a state of the art and crucial platform in the European landscape of protein research. The iBS platform is open to academic and industry partners for fee-for-services or collaborative projects.

The platform is involved in quality and a continuous improvement approach and benefits from the French IBiSA label.
